Teethers FAQ

What are teethers?

Any time! Of course the most obvious time is when baby starts teething (typically within 4-6 months), however babies of all ages love to put everything in their mouth. A baby teether will provide a safe alternative to hands, clothing, and even get your car keys back (while saving baby from the risk of pointy edges and choking hazards!).

When should I start using teethers?

Are teethers safe?

This is a very important question, and the first answer should be like this; A teether must be safe in order to comply with mandatory Australian standards! At Teething Baby Australia | WILD BUBZ®, all of our toys have been certified to comply with the safety standard AS/NZS ISO 8124, which means we can guarantee our toys are not a choking or any other kind of hazard to children 36 months old or younger. Beware of sellers who cannot provide verification that their products have been independently lab certified to pass all relevant safety standards.

Are silicone teethers safe?

Silicone teethers are made using food grade silicone, the same non-toxic material which is used on cooking utensils such as spatulas, spoons, non-stick baking mats etc. Keep in mind that while silicone is entirely non-toxic, you will need to ensure that the toy shape/design complies with the rest of the Australian toy safety standard, to ensure the item is not a choking or other kind of risk for children 36 months old or younger. All Teething Baby Australia | WILD BUBZ® teethers are certified to meet the standard AS/NZS ISO 8124.

Are wooden teethers good for babies?

A wood teether provides a different texture when compared to silicone. This firmer texture is sometimes more preferred, however choice will also largely come down to aesthetic reasons. A teether which features both wood and silicone components can provide the best of both words (soft and hard), so baby can alternate between each using the same toy.

What is the best teething ring?

There are a number of design choices for teething rings, especially if you are using this a general term to mean 'baby toy', and not limiting specifically to a ring shape. The best will largely come down to personal aesthetic preference and the price range you are targeting, but will always require the item to be safe and to meet all Australian safety standards. At Teething Baby Australia | WILD BUBZ®, we stock a range of colours and materials, while also ensuring all designs are certified to comply with the safety standard AS/NZS ISO 8124.

What does teether mean?

The definition of a teether is a toy which is made for a baby to bite, chew, suck on. This can be especially helpful while baby is in the teething stage, but is also a normal activity for babies who will attempt to put any item they find in their mouth to explore the world orally.

What are baby teethers made from?

A range of materials are used to make baby toys, however it is crucially important to ensure that the material is non-toxic and safe. At Teething Baby Australia | WILD BUBZ®, we provide teethers made of silicone and/or natural untreated wood. All of our toys are certified to be non-toxic as well as safe in design for children 36 months old or younger.

What is a silicone teether?

A silicone teether is made from food grade silicone. It is a toy which is made to be safe for children 36 months old or younger, which can help relieve the symptoms of teething, while also providing a safe toy for baby to chew, suck, and fiddle with.
